Freshen up the curls day two
Yesterday I posted my entire styling routine and I think you can join in on today's refresh of what we did yesterday! 𤊠The post from yesterday is among my âlooksâ on my profile here on Lyko social if you're curious. Besides the products used today, I also had heat protection and a little spray yesterday. Sometimes I freshen up the curls with just mousse and sometimes it becomes a whole procedure with lots of water, mousse, gelĂŠe, etc., it depends on what condition the hair is in and what I used before. I usually donât need to do much more than what I do today when Iâve had these products, they are great! That's why I want stiff curls. First đ
For me with a slightly weaker curl pattern (2 a-c) it's gold when the mousse and gel give a stiff surface to the curls as they dry! Why then? Well, it's not because I want them to stay hard, but because when I scrunch out the hard, the curls will hold their pattern better since they previously set in this pattern 𤊠In the video, I show how I do it when I scrunch out the hard from the curls along with a bit of hair oil. "The wet look" disappears, the hair gets more volume, and the curls become bigger and softer. Doesn't putting it up ruin the curls?
It hurts a little in the soul to put the hair up when you have a good hair day and get cute curls around the face⌠but does putting the hair up really ruin the curls? I've come to the conclusion that the answer is ânjaeâ đ because it really depends on which products I use. I have products that make the curls give up and look like I've been out at the bar all night, already on day two, but I showed in the last post how my hair looked when I used these products and slept one and two nights with my hair in a ponytail on top of my head (big scrunchy or similar), and today I trained, so Iâm making sure to show how my hair looked before training, the ponytail under 1 hour of cross trainer + stretching and finally how my hair looked when I let it down after the shower. (In the shower, I clamped the ponytail with a clip on my head so it wouldnât get wet. Of course, there is SOME change when you put the ponytail up, but I am very surprised (and impressed) by how the hair with these products returns to the waves when it is let down again. The products really boost the structure of the curls, and as long as it doesnât get wet, the pattern seems to stay. 1st test with Umberto Giannini's products
I have tested some budget brands to enhance my curls/waves, but the ones I tried haven't really lived up to expectations. Now I ordered the mousse and gel from Umberto Giannini, and the price is definitely appealing. I read that Cantus leave-in conditioner is supposed to be quite heavy, so I used it as a mix of conditioner and leave-in, meaning I didn't rinse everything out, so product was still left in my hair when I scrunched in the mousse and then the gel. I also sprayed in heat protection since it doesn't seem to be in any of the other products. Then I went over my hair with the diffuser and let the last part dry on its own. The fact is that the pictures are actually from day TVĂ . So I have slept with my hair in a loose bun on top of my head, and the only thing I did today was scrunch out the âcrunchetâ from the gel with a bit of hair oil (don't be afraid that the curls will be stiff from the gel, you just have to scrunch it out later. Crunchet is your friend if you, like me, don't have such strong curls đđźđ) I am impressed! I might just be having a really good hair day, but it could also be that there's a reason you hear about the products! It looks promising, and I will return with a review when I have tested it more times! Do you want to bring your curls back to life on day 2, 3 (or why not 5?) without piling on layer after layer of products that cause build-up? Then this is my go-to method! đ At night: I sleep with my hair in a loose, high ponytail with a soft silk scrunchie. Sometimes I also wrap my hair in a silk scarf or sleep on a silk pillowcase â it reduces friction and helps the curls hold their shape better. đ§ In the morning: I release the ponytail, gently shake out my hair, and spray a moisturizing leave-in spray all over. Then I let it air dry. Simple, quick, and gentle. đĄ Want to style a little extra? Then you can mix a small amount of curl cream or gel with water in your hands and smooth/scrunch it into your hair. It gives a bit more hold â but without weighing it down or building up too much product. đŚ Sometimes water is enough! If you styled with a good amount of product after washing, it might be enough to just spray with water. Many styling products (like gel and cream) reactivate with moisture â itâs all about how much product is left in the hair. Tagging my favorite spray bottle for water. đŹď¸ Air drying works best when itâs warm. I often air dry in the summer because itâs nice and convenient. In the winter, I usually skip it â freezing temperatures and wet hair are a bad combo. How to dry your hair for completely frizz-free curls
Just kidding â frizz-free curls are not a reasonable goal. Those perfect, shiny curls you sometimes see? Often, the hair is first straightened or blow-dried straight and then styled with a curling iron. Thatâs a different look â on different hair. When we style our naturally curly hair, we work with our natural texture. And there will always be a little frizz â more or less. Both results are beautiful! Donât try to mimic how someone with straight hair tries to create curls. It wonât look the same â and we donât want it to either. Work with your texture, not against it đ âł đż After a proper wash with shampoo and conditioner, I applied a curl cream to very wet hair directly in the shower. Then I let my hair rest in a microfiber towel for a while before applying a gel with strong hold. đ Many become hesitant when the gel dries stiff â but thatâs exactly what we want! The stiffness encapsulates the curl pattern while the hair dries. When the hair is completely dry, you scrunch out the stiffness â and youâre left with defined curls with minimal frizz and nice hold. âł My best tips when drying with a diffuser: đ¨ Donât touch the curls at first! Let the dryer circulate around the hair â we want the curls to set in their natural shape. đ Tilt your head forward and backward, up and down, to create volume and get air at the roots. đ When the gel starts to set, gently lift certain sections to better reach the scalp â without disturbing the curl pattern. â When the hair is clearly stiff, start scrunching with your hands while drying. This releases the hard outer layer and builds volume at the same time. đŹď¸ Dry completely dry â not 80 or 90%. It makes a big difference for both shape and durability. đ§ Finish with a light hair oil on the ends and lengths for shine and protection. âł đ Tip!
