Good flat iron, but short lifespan

Easy and user-friendly flat iron with good buttons and many heat settings. The coconut oil washed off nicely with alcohol = good for me, who wasn't interested in this detail. Unfortunately, my unit only lasted a little over a year, and it also broke in a really scary way. First, I started getting shocks when I plugged it in and out, and one day when I was about to turn on the flat iron, I noticed that the display was flickering. When I picked up the iron to take a closer look, something exploded inside the iron (it sounded at least like that, a pop) and sparks started flying at the connection between the iron and the cord! I immediately unplugged it, but it was already burning inside the cord, it was hot and there was a lot of smoke. Unfortunately, this reminds me of how a previous Remington flat iron broke, it also started smoking with a pop. Very disappointing, both with the short lifespan and the scary way it broke. I wouldn't recommend anyone to keep this flat iron plugged in when not in use. It started burning in the cord in just a few seconds, and had I not seen it, who knows where it could have ended!
